When Hiding Looks Like Trust

We came across this little one on a walk through our woods,
a tiny fawn, curled into the leaves -
still, small, and unseen.
At first, we almost missed it.
Its dappled coat blended perfectly with the forest floor,
and only when the sunlight shifted did we see it -
wide eyes open, unmoving, waiting.
It wasn’t lost.
It wasn’t afraid.
It was doing exactly what it was created to do -
resting, hidden where its mother placed it,
trusting she would return.
And I couldn’t stop thinking about that.
Because isn’t that the very posture my soul forgets sometimes?
When life feels uncertain,
when fear presses close,
I forget how to be still.
I rush. Strive. Fix.
Hide in the wrong things.
But the psalmist’s words offer a better way:
“Rescue me from my enemies, Lord, for I hide myself in You.” Psalm 143:9 (NIV)
Hide myself in You.
To hide in Him -
Not to escape the world, but to be held by the One who made it.
Maybe the holiest thing you can do today
isn’t to push through,
but to tuck yourself quietly beneath His care.
To rest like the fawn.
Still. Covered. Kept.
What if it’s worship -
a choosing to be still in the safety of His presence,
trusting that He is near,
that He sees,
that He guards what He loves.
Because hiding in Him -
it’s refuge.
It’s how your soul remembers it’s safe again.
Pause here.
Breathe.
Whisper it softly:
“Here I am, Lord. I hide myself in You.”
